What Is the NMJL Card?
 

The NMJL card is the official reference used to play American Mah Jongg and is published annually by the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL).

 

Every legal winning hand for the year is listed on the current card, and a player’s hand must match one complete line exactly to declare Mah Jongg.

The NMJL card serves as a nationwide standard, allowing American Mah Jongg to be played consistently across homes, clubs, and tournaments.

 

While the specific hands change each year, the structure of the card remains familiar, making it possible for players to adapt from one year to the next.

A new NMJL card is released each year and becomes the only valid reference for legal hands during that playing season.
