What Is American Mah Jongg?
American Mah Jongg is a version of the traditional tile game played in the United States using an annual card published by the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL).
All winning hands must match one complete line on the current NMJL card.
American Mah Jongg is played with four players, racks, jokers, and a structured sequence of play that includes the Charleston, drawing, discarding, and declaring Mah Jongg. Unlike other versions of the game, American Mah Jongg relies on the point-based scoring that's listed on the annual card to determine winning hands.
Because all players nationwide use the same card each year, American Mah Jongg can be played consistently across homes, clubs, and tournaments throughout the United States.
