What Does “Suitless” Mean on the NMJL Card?
“Suitless” means that a tile does not belong to the Bam, Crak, or Dot suits and does not count toward the number of suits used in a hand.
Suitless tiles are used exactly as shown on the NMJL card.
In American Mah Jongg, Flowers and Winds are always suitless.
White Dragons are suitless when they are used as a zero, as indicated on year-based hands.
When White Dragons are not being used as zeroes, they follow the suit relationships specified on the card.
The NMJL card determines when a tile is suitless and how it is counted in a specific hand.
