Online matching games may use Mah Jongg–style tiles, but they do not follow the rules, structure, or objectives of American Mah Jongg.
 

American Mah Jongg is a tile-based game played with four players, racks, dice, an annual NMJL card, and standardized rules.

Winning requires matching one complete line on the current NMJL card using 14 tiles, following specific rules for jokers, exposures, and concealed hands.
 

Online matching games are typically single-player puzzle games based on pattern matching.

They do not use the NMJL card, do not follow American Mah Jongg rules, and are not considered Mah Jongg under NMJL standards.
