Are Winds and Dragons Suits in American Mah Jongg?
No. Winds and Dragons are not suits in American Mah Jongg.
The three suits used in American Mah Jongg are Bams, Craks, and Dots.
Winds (North, South, East, and West) and Dragons (Red, Green, and White) are used as their own tile groupings and are treated separately from the suited tiles. They do not count as suits when determining how many suits are used in a hand.
When Winds or Dragons appear on the NMJL card, the card specifies exactly how they are grouped and how they interact with suited tiles.
